You've graduated from school, Woohoo! … Now what?

For many recent graduates, the next step is an internship! If an internship is the next stage in your career AND you want to pursue Permanent Residency in Canada, keep reading.



The Manitoba Graduate Internship Pathway accepts applicants who have graduated from a Manitoba post-secondary institution with a master's degree or Ph.D. within the last 3 years and who completed a Mitacs Elevate or Accelerate internship.


Wait, wait... A what or a what?

Mitacs has partnered with schools across Canada to deliver incredible internships (such as Elevate or Accelerate) to give international students a leg up in their careers.

With the Mitacs Accelerate program, A student, a supervising professor, and a partner organization develop a research project. Within the four-month time frame of the internship, Applicants submit a proposal via a Mitacs representative and if approved, the project receives $15,000 in funding!


Mitacs Elevate is a postdoctoral fellowship with an exclusive professional development curriculum component. Fellows address complex challenges through a two-year research project with a partner organization in need of high-level expertise and a professional development curriculum that prepares Elevate fellows for success as leaders in research and industry


Eligibility:

  1. All candidates must have graduated from a Manitoba University or College with a master’s degree or a Ph.D. and completed a Mitacs internship within the last 3 years.

  2. Candidates must achieve a level 7 proficiency in either English or French in order to be considered for this program. Language tests must have been taken within the two years prior to applying to the program

  3. Candidates for this stream must reside in Manitoba at the time of application and intend to remain in Manitoba after nomination. A Career Employment Plan must be submitted as part of this process.

  4. In order to qualify for this stream, candidates must demonstrate liquid funds equivalent to Canada's Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) requirements. Applicants may be able to satisfy this requirement if they show that they are employed in a full-time, long-term position in Manitoba.


Candidates successfully nominated through the Manitoba Graduate Internship Pathway will be invited to submit an official application for Canadian permanent residence!
