North Bay, Ontario, is preparing to launch a transformative immigration initiative in 2025—the North Bay & Area Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This program aims to attract skilled foreign workers to fill labor shortages in the region. Although the program has not officially commenced, the groundwork is being laid to ensure a successful rollout.
North Bay is among the 14 communities selected to participate in the RCIP. The program will cover the City of North Bay and surrounding areas, including communities within the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts and the Town of Latchford.
Program Objectives
The primary goal of the RCIP is to attract and retain newcomers to fill employment gaps in North Bay and the surrounding areas. The RCIP will focus on:
Identifying and designating eligible employers who can offer full-time, non-seasonal employment opportunities.
Supporting outreach, administration, communications, and marketing efforts to attract suitable candidates.
Providing assistance to newcomers relocating to the region for work. The program is designed to be community-driven, ensuring that the specific needs and challenges of the North Bay area are addressed effectively.
How to Get Involved
Individuals and employers are encouraged to express interest now. Employers and prospective candidates are encouraged to express their interest by completing the relevant surveys available on the official RCIP website - (Community Partner/Service Provider survey, Candidate Interest Survey, and Employer Interest Survey).
The program will be open to skilled foreign workers with:
A valid job offer from a designated North Bay-area employer
Relevant work experience
Language proficiency (English or French)
Sufficient funds to support themselves and any accompanying family members
Anticipated Launch and Participation
While the RCIP has not yet officially launched in North Bay, preparations are underway. The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with IRCC, is actively developing the program to ensure it aligns with the region's specific labor market needs. The program will be open to skilled foreign workers who have a genuine intention to reside in the North Bay area. Each participating community will provide details and timelines on when employers and prospective permanent residence candidates can expect to apply.
