Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Reopens in 2018

Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will re-open the parents and grandparents permanent residence sponsorship in January 2018.

Who is eligible to sponsor a parent or grandparent

You can sponsor your parents and grandparents if you’re 18 years of age or older, living in Canada and are a:

  • Canadian citizen or

  • person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or

  • permanent resident of Canada

If you live in Quebec, you must also meet Quebec’s immigration sponsorship requirements after we approve you as a sponsor.

The Application Process

  • You must fill out a short Interest to sponsor form online. This form will become available from 12noon EST on January 2nd, 2018 - February 1st 2018.

  • After February 1, IRCC will randomly select potential sponsors and invite them to apply.

  • If you are invited to apply, you must submit a complete application before the deadline specified on your invitation.

  • If you are not invited in 2018, you may try again in 2019.

  • If you want your parent or grandparent to visit you in Canada, you can apply for a super visa.
