Express Entry in 2023: Here is What to Expect

IRCC will begin targetted express entry draws in the first quarter of 2023.

Not much is known about precisely which types of candidates will be targeted (IRCC likes to surprise us).

Still, the Immigration Minister will have the power to invite candidates based on factors including occupation, language abilities, or educational background. This may be done in a combination of a candidate's CRS score or we may see the CRS system replaced completely.

Express Entry Draws July 2022

So far, the two draws we've seen haven't sparked much excitement. The number of invitations has been extremely low, despite the fact that the CRS score has been pretty high. When the Immigration Minister announced that draws would be held gradually, he meant it. The July 6th draw invited 1,500 candidates with a CRS of 557 and the second draw on July 20th invited 1,750 candidates with a CRS of 542.

The second draw this month witnessed a minor increase in ITAs and a slight decrease in CRS, indicating that these draws are still limited to those who are already living and working in Canada.

Knowing this, how can you prepare?

If you are eligible, getting into the Express Entry pool is the best way to prepare. To enter the pool:

1. Check your score

If you are eligible, you'll be ranked in the Express Entry pool using the Comprehensive - Ranking System (CRS).

2. Get your documents ready

This includes (but is not limited to) language test scores, proof of funds, police certificates, and medical exams.

3. Fill out your profile

This is where you will give IRCC information about yourself.

If you are already in the pool,

1. Increase your CRS score

Receiving a job offer, furthering your education, and refining your language abilities are all ways to improve your CRS score. Despite the fact that these are all time-consuming options, they are all an investment in your journey to Canada.

2. Consider Provincial Nomination Programs

PNPs provide routes to permanent residence for those who are ineligible for Express Entry but have characteristics that support regional labour demands. It is also important to keep in mind that Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 points towards their CRS score.

3. Keep up to date

So much has happened in very little time and we have no doubt that IRCC has more surprises coming. Make sure to follow our social pages and check our blog often as we post the latest news!
