Ontario's OINP Broadens Eligibility for International Students with One-Year College Graduate Certificates

OINP Broadens Eligibility for Intl. Students with one-year college graduates certificate
Ontario College Graduates

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has recently announced a significant change in eligibility criteria for candidates applying through the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream. This change, effective January 1, 2024, specifically impacts international students who have completed a one-year college graduate certificate in Canada.

Previous Restrictions:

Before this revision, the OINP's Employer Job Offer: International Student stream limited eligibility for candidates with a one-year certificate. Students were only eligible if their program required the completion of a degree as an admission prerequisite. This restriction significantly narrowed the pool of eligible candidates.

New Inclusive Policy:

With the latest amendment, the OINP has expanded eligibility, allowing applicants with any one-year college program that grants an Ontario College Graduate Certificate to qualify. This adjustment broadens the scope of eligible certificate programs, providing more opportunities for international students to apply for permanent residency in Ontario.

Effective Date:

The change officially came into effect on January 1, 2024. It's important to note that this modification does not impact individuals who submitted their applications before this date. For those who fall under the updated criteria, the door is now open to a wider range of one-year graduate certificate programs in Ontario.

Summary of Changes:

Expression of Interest (EOI) Changes:

To align with this eligibility change, the Expression of Interest (EOI) scoring factors for additional Canadian educational credentials and the highest educational credential have been revised. Those who have already registered but haven't been invited to apply are encouraged to review these changes to adapt their EOI accordingly.

Other Revisions:

Adjustments have also been made to the list of eligible educational institutions for this stream. Potential applicants must stay informed and check the OINP website for the updated requirements, scoring criteria, and any changes to the list of eligible institutions.
