Ontario Issues Over $500,000 in Fines for Immigration Program Violations

Ontario has fined 77 legal representatives and employers a total of $509,100 for breaking the rules of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), a system that allows the province to nominate immigrants who best meet its labour market needs.
Those penalized include:

21 immigration consultants
55 employers
The fines were issued under provincial rules introduced in 2018 to strengthen accountability and integrity within the OINP.

2,703 of those applications were ultimately rejected.

The ministry also confirmed that the first charge under the Ontario Immigration Act was laid in December 2023 in connection with program violations.
