Ontario Issues Over $500,000 in Fines for Immigration Program Violations
Ontario has fined 77 legal representatives and employers a total of $509,100 for breaking the rules of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), a system that allows the province to nominate immigrants who best meet its labour market needs.
Those penalized include:

Between 2018 and 2024, 6,506 notices of intent to refuse were issued to applicants whose eligibility was questioned.
2,703 of those applications were ultimately rejected.
Fines and ban orders are being enforced more actively, though some remain pending.
The ministry also confirmed that the first charge under the Ontario Immigration Act was laid in December 2023 in connection with program violations.
