New Manitoba Policy Offers Two-Year Work Permit Extension for MPNP Candidates

The Manitoba government has just announced a significant update that will impact many temporary foreign workers and families looking to settle permanently in the province.

A Two-Year Work Permit Extension Now Available for MPNP Candidates

On April 15, 2025, Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino revealed that Manitoba will introduce a two-year, province-specific work permit extension under a new temporary public policy. This policy is specifically designed to support prospective Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) candidates whose work permits have already expired in 2024 or are set to expire in 2025.

“By allowing eligible candidates to extend their work permits, we’re helping more Manitoba workers and families to continue building their lives in Manitoba,” said Marcelino. “This is good news for our economy, businesses and communities across Manitoba.”

Who Is Eligible?

This new policy will apply to individuals who:

✅ Are currently employed in Manitoba

✅ Intend to establish themselves permanently in the province

✅ Had a work permit that expired in 2024, or

✅ Have a work permit expiring in 2025

These candidates must also be in the process of pursuing permanent residence through the MPNP.

How to Apply

Starting April 22, 2025, eligible candidates can request a support letter from the Province of Manitoba by submitting an online application form. This support letter will then allow them to apply for the two-year work permit extension under the temporary public policy.
