The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 920 candidates on a program-specific draw, targeting candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) with the highest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off of 739 in 2024.
This draw is the third draw targeting PNP candidates, and in this draw, IRCC invites candidates specifically from one immigration program, instead of opening it up to all Express Entry programs like a general draw..
Understanding the Canadian Express Entry System
The Express Entry provides a pathway to permanent residence for skilled workers in Canada or overseas.
Express Entry manages applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs:
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from Express Entry through their Provincial Nominee Programs to meet local labour market needs.
Types of Express Entry Draws
1. General rounds of invitations: In general rounds of invitations, the focus is on inviting top-ranking candidates from the Express Entry pool who are eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs. These programs include
Federal Skilled Worker Program: The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) offers a compelling pathway to permanent residency in Canada for skilled professionals with international experience. This program prioritizes your skills and work experience, streamlining the immigration process for those seeking to establish themselves in the dynamic Canadian workforce.
Federal Skilled Trades Program: The Canadian Government's Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) offers a streamlined immigration path for qualified tradespeople seeking permanent residency in Canada. This program recognizes the valuable skills and experience that skilled trades bring to the Canadian workforce.
Canadian Experience Class: The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) offers a streamlined immigration pathway for skilled professionals who have gained a minimum of three years experience working in Canada and aspire to permanent residency.
2. Provincial Nominations Draws (PNP): These are draws that invite candidates who have received a nomination from a Canadian province or territory. These candidates receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
3. Program-specific rounds of invitations: Program-specific rounds of invitations target candidates who are eligible for a specific Express Entry program. For instance, if a round of invitations is specifically designated for Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC), only candidates who meet the criteria for that specific program will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
4. Category-based rounds of invitations: Under this approach, categories are established to address a specific labour market or economic need in Canada. The highest-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool who are eligible for the identified category will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
Category-based selection invitations will focus on the following candidates:
French language proficiency
Healthcare
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
Transport
Agriculture and agri-food
