Education and Professional Credentials:

Member – Law Society of Saskatchewan

Member – Canadian Bar Association

Member – Nigerian Bar Association

Certificate of Qualification - National Committee on Accreditation, Federation of Law Societies of Canada, Ottawa, Canada

Master of Laws (LL.M) - University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. Hons.)- Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria

She started her legal career as a litigation lawyer in a top tier law firm in Lagos, Nigeria. Thereafter, she developed an interest in tax law and practiced as a legal tax consultant at KPMG Nigeria – a multinational professional services network - where she gained valuable experience in tax and regulatory advisory services.

Prior to relocating to Canada, she applied and got a job with the same organization as a senior tax consultant at the KPMG Regina Office – where she was resident. Shortly after she started work in Regina, she obtained a scholarship to pursue a post-graduate degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK. During her LL.M program, she applied to the National Committee on Accreditation(NCA) for an assessment of my legal education and work experience. The NCA is a standing committee of the Federation of Law Societies in Canada and the committee assesses the legal education and professional experience of individuals who obtained their credentials outside of Canada. She was assigned the mandatory certification exams to demonstrate the key competencies of Canadian common law. Upon completing the certification exams, she obtained her Certificate of Qualification and became eligible to commence her articles. At the time she obtained her Certificate of Qualification, She had recently completed my LL.M program and was working as the Civil Co-ordinator at the Dispute Resolution Office (“DRO”) of the Ministry of Justice. Upon becoming eligible to article, I applied and obtained one of the articling positions at the Ministry of Justice (“Ministry”).

During her articling year with the Ministry, she had the opportunity to rotate through the multiple divisions including Civil Law, Public Law, Public Prosecutions and Office of Tribunal Counsel. This experience gave her a unique and diverse articling experience. After my articling, I moved to the Ministry of Social Services and I currently manage the legal services team at the housing division of the Ministry of Social Services.

can remember there were some uncertainties that accompanied my relocating to a new country and what it was like starting out in Canada. After investing so much time and resources in studying and practicing law in Nigeria, I really wanted to explore that same career path here in Canada. Even though there were resources online that were helpful in giving the general idea of the accreditation process, there was very limited resources in obtaining sound and practical advice on navigating the accreditation process and the prospects of pursuing a career in law. For instance, matters like - tips for putting together the application for assessment, what to expect while preparing for the exams, impact of a postgraduate degree in the assessment or accreditation process, prospects of getting a career in law e.t.c. Based on my personal experience and information I have gathered over the years, I can provide practical advice and insight into these questions and more. My passion for helping fellow internationally trained lawyers succeed in their chosen career path is the main reason I still keep up to date with the NCA accreditation process. I am always excited at any opportunity to share my knowledge with new folks entering the field.
